Tom Animalpastor visits the EU

Picture
October 2012

Last year in early October, Tom, the Animalpastor, travelled to Rome. In front of the Vatican, he blessed animals on the day of the Saint Francis of Assisi.

Tom touched the World with his symbolic gesture and left the following letter addressed to the Pope together with the signatures of more than 3,000 people:

Dear Brother in Christ Priesthood, Successor of Peter the Apostle, Priest,

Pope Benedict 16th!

This will not be a long letter, it will be quite short, may be even surprisingly short. Nothing like great petitions, claims, complaints or challenges issued bravely.

Holy Father, we must not turn our heads away on living as if nothing was happening! Holy Father, they are our little brothers and sisters.

On 4 October, 2011 ... I will stand at the gates of Vatican City.

will be there on behalf of all the tortured, persecuted and miserable animals, all the animals who suffer... I will rest there, deep in thought and concerned greatly for our little brothers and sisters...

I will fast and bless animals.

- Animalpastor -

See pictures of Tom in Rome here...

This year in early October,
Tom traveled to Brussels to appeal on the
conscience of our EU-politicians, which is not an easy mission...

Tom Animalpastor

--------------------------

I took him with me, Saint Francis! And I thought a lot about “David against Goliath” a scene from the Holy Bible).

First I’d like to thank all the people that supported me in many different ways when I was going to do my “Quo vadis” action in Brussels.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for the “chain of lights” of good deeds and words on the day of Saint Francis!
A chain which was supposed to “embrace” the whole globe.

Because of that something came to my mind (in Brussels), what I want to put up cross-national and cross-language in the year 2013. (I will write more about that another time.)

So we all assembled in front of the building of the European Union in Brussels.

Thanks for every sign of solidarity with me and especially the with them, the suffering animals!

From different countries, in different languages, with one single, collective concern for our siblings, the animals!

Thank you very much for ever SMS, Email, good thoughts, telephone calls and for your love for suffering people and animals, people and animals in need.

We all have set an important example by this.

The action itself was very peaceful. As peaceful as it was in the year 2011 in Rome.
Only the Belgian police (security) was much faster than the Italian one. I was told to leave the place after less than 5 minutes. But I didn’t. My explanation for that was as simple as my action itself: I don’t do anything bad, I am here because I worry about my siblings, the animals!

„Le Parlament c'est VOUS“! I was repeating constantly in an almost autistic way. A phrase I have read inwards and it reminded me of a biblical phrase"!

The machinery of bureaucracy came therefore really quick to moving, but it ended all good for me. I was allowed to stay there, but they showed me exactly what "boundaries" I must not exceed.

I don’t think it is very abject to extravagate unless it is ethical justifiable and doesn’t hurt anyone. This can open completely new spheres!

Had to think a lot about Berthold Brecht’s statement: "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty."

A very special excitement to me was the meeting and the conversations with the Italian politician and parliament member Andrea Zanoni.

It has been wonderful moments, important exchanges, simply “blessed time”. If we want to change something for real and enduring, we will have to stay in contact, we will have to network, to do even more networking. All in the same worry for our suffering siblings, animals.

Inside the European Parliament I was also managed to handle out a petition from an animal welfare organization based in Luxembourg (with the signatures of 14,ooo people from different countries) to the Italian politician Mrs. Mazzoni (Group of the European People's Party; Christian Democrats).

As I said I gave the members of the European Parliament only empty “cards”. A symbolic act, because it is too much said and written and less done. You “fritter” yourself way too fast today, without making the real contents to topic!

I was walking all day long with my burning candle (not only at night) because we have eyes, which are meant to be “seeing” good and still we don’t see the essence!

Because we miss the “inner eye” and the “inner light”! And by this I mean the suffering of animals, which happens in front of our doors and eyes!

The empty „cards“ have sparked a bit of confusion but the reactions were quite Friendly and were usually acknowledged with a small smile on their faces.

The burning light was also being considered In a friendly way. The light and warmth do connect without the awareness of people. Many interesting conversations, meetings, impressions - a perfectly good, "blessed" time.

Only the animals (except some flying birds that passed by my stuffed animals, which accompany me quite efficient every time and very sporadically passing dogs) I went miss to these very days.

However, until only the day of Saint Francis!
Strictly speaking only in the evening, some distance away from the EU Parliament, near Rue du Marché aux Herbes.

I have been allowed to see them and to bless them on the day of Saint Francis. Twelve proud dogs, all of them accompanies of homeless people! Homeless dogs! Amongst them six puppies (!): naked, still without fur, beautiful, little living beings; with their mom (Sonja). The babies got born to this world on the day before the day of Saint Francis. They were only one day old and now they sat there with their mom in a big cardboard, right beside an elderly human without a home.
Only very gentle and slowly I was able to “bless them through a touch” because they were snuggling under their mother and there was no way to do it in a different way. With great joy I blessed the mother dog as well and she looked at me in a very curious way but also with full confidence.

Haunting and wonderful moments!

And I think I don’t have to mention that the rest of the money I had in my pocket, was staying there.

It was a good time. A time of togetherness, a time that will bring out fruits, a "mustard seed" of biblical origin!

And it is very nice that you do exist!

With only the best wishes for everyone, you and your furry friends as well,

Yours,

Tom Animalpastor

-----------------------

Ho portato Francesco d’Assisi con me a Bruxelles! ….

Tom Animalpastor

Zabralem go tam ze soba, do Brukseli. Sw. Franciszka z Asyzu...zabralem z przekonaniem.

Serdecznie dziekuje!

Chcialbym, by taki lancuch swiatla, dobrych slow i uczynkow, wobec cierpiacych zwierzat i ludzi ogarnal wkrotce cala ziemie, i wlasnie w brukseli przyszedl mi pomysl nowej akcji, przekraczajacej nie tylko roznice kulturowe, jezykowe, narodowe, ale i kazde inne.. akcji, w ktorej jedno na pewno laczy: troska o naszych mniejszych/starszych Braci i Siostry, zwierzeta.

Ale o niej to juz pewnie nastepnym razem.

Gesty, slowa wyrazane w roznych jezykach, nadchodzace z roznych krajow.

Dzieki nim bylisce tam razem ze mna. I ja to czulem.

Twierdzilem.

Troche trwalo, fax, telefony.. W rezultacie koncowym: ok, mogle zostac.

imperatywem moralnym, powiedzialby E. Kant).

Ogromna radosc sprawilo mi spotkanie z grupa wloskich aktywistow oraz wloskim politykiem, deputowanym Unii Europejskiej, Andera Zanoni... czlowiekiem, ktory mysli o nich (zwierzatach) naprawde z troska.

To byly wspaniale chwile, wzruszajace spotkania, wymiana zdan. Jesli chcemy w swiecie cos naprawde zmienic, musimy sie jednoczyc, jeszcze bardziej jednoczyc..

Brakowalo, az do dnia samego sw.

A wspolnie mozemy gory przenosic!

J Z serdecznymi pozdrowaniemai dla kazdego/kazdej z Was i Waszych (a wiec i moich) ukochanych przyjaciol zwierzat,

Tom Animalpastor

'Quo Vadis, Europa' meets 'EU, when do you think it is time to act?'

Below, the letter that Occupy for Animals has sent to Mrs Erminia Mazzoni, Chair of the Committee on Petitions at the European Parliament:

Dear Mrs Mazzoni,

We write to you today with the sincere request that the catholic priest, Tomasz Jaeschke, the Animal Pastor, be granted 5 minutes of your time, so that he may personally hand over the signatures from thousands of people around the world who have appealed to the EU on behalf of the sadly abused homeless animals of Europe.

https://www.facebook.com/tomanimalpastor

He is a simple man of God, and one who is devoted to animals. It would please him greatly to make your acquaintance and put forward the signature petition for your consideration and action. However, in the event you are unable to meet him, he would leave the document at the Reception desk for you. Tom Animalpastor will be in front of the European Parliament from Tuesday till Friday.

We do look forward to the possibility that you may have the time to receive him.

Sincerely,

- Team Occupy for Animals -

Tom has personally hand-delivered our petition to the EU!

We are deeply grateful to Tom, the Animalpastor, for personally handing over our petition, 'EU, when do you think it is time to act?', to the EU (European Union)!

It was a great, symbolic gesture; who better than Tom the Animalpastor, to bring to the attention of the EU the dire plight of Europe's unseen animals?

Mrs Erminia Mazzoni, Chair of the Committee on Petitions, was not in her office in Brussels during Tom's visit, but had sent her personal assistant to receive Tom and to take over the petition and the signatures list.

Many, many thanks to Tom also for the beautiful picture-collage showing him handing over our petition.

We cannot thank you enough, dear Tom, for your faith in us and what we are working to achieve for the animals of Europe. Your delivering the petition on our behalf was very symbolic; we are grateful for your support!

You know how much we love you! And if the animals could speak, we are sure they would be saying, "You rock, Padre!"

From the bottom of our hearts:

Thank you for everything, dear Tom Animalpastor ♥

You have not signed, yet?

Our petition remains active and the collected signatures will be delivered to the European Union in regular intervals to remind that time alone does not heal the stray animals' wounds and it will not solve the problem neither.
